Standard Sizes & Holes

Pegboard comes in 2×4 and 4×8 ft sheets with holes on a 1″ grid (1/4″ holes for standard hooks, 1/8″ for light-duty). This planner snaps every accessory to that 1″ grid so your real hooks line up.

Mounting

  • Hold pegboard 1/2″ off the wall on furring strips or spacers so hooks can seat — use the included spacers or 1/2″ ply strips.
  • Screw into studs (16″ on center) at the corners and every ~16″ along the edges.
  • Heavy tools (clamps, power tools) belong on the lower third, near studs.

Reading the Shopping List

We total each accessory type you placed and convert your board into standard sheet sizes. Hook and bin counts are exact; buy a hook assortment if you mix sizes.

Pegboard Layout FAQ

Is there a free pegboard layout tool?

Yes — this one. Drag hooks, bins, shelves and tool holders onto a to-scale board, snap to the 1″ grid, and print or share your design. No download or signup.

How do I space pegboard hooks?

Holes are on a 1″ grid. Leave a hole or two between hooks so tools don’t crowd — the planner snaps each tile to the grid so your spacing is realistic.

How far off the wall should pegboard sit?

About 1/2″, so the hooks can hook through. Use the spacers that come with a kit, or mount on 1/2″ furring strips screwed to studs.
